Q01 : What it is an SSL Certificate?

SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally encrypt the communication between two systems, preventing any 'unintended for' recipients from reading and modifying the information that is submitted. SSL [ Secure Sockets Layer ] and TLS [ Transport Layer Security ] are both cryptographic protocols that provide authentication and data encryption between servers, machines, and applications operating over a network.

SSL was the original protocol [ it is now deprecated ]. TLS is the most recent one. All encryption certificates issued by any reputable CA [ Certificate Authority ] are nowadays using the TLS protocol The SSL 'label' is still there as is the most recognizable TLA [ three letter acronym ] used in conjunction with these products and to avoid confusion. SSL Certificates can be issued under various encryption algorithms [ known as DES/3DES, AES and RSA ] and with various key strengths [ 128 to 4096 bit length ] The most used 'combination' is RSA 2048 bit length.
